Bedford Sings Youth Choir
We are delighted to announce the appointment of Charlotte Brosnan as the founding Choral Director of the new Bedford Sings Youth Choir, launching in May for children in Years 4–6.
The appointment marks an important step in Bedford Sings’ vision to develop and celebrate singing in the town through the creation of a high-quality youth choir programme alongside its bi-annual festival of choirs.
Charlotte Brosnan brings outstanding experience as a conductor, educator and workshop leader, having worked with leading music organisations across the UK and Europe. She read music at the University of Nottingham before studying singing and Italian in Rome, and has built an international career combining performance, choral leadership and music education.
She has led workshops, CPD and education projects for organisations including the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain, The Bach Choir, London Youth Choir, the VOCES8 Foundation and ABRSM. She is also an ambassador for Britten-Pears Arts and a trustee of St Paul’s Opera.
Charlotte currently conducts London Youth Choir South West and directs several school and community choirs. She founded Monumental Choir, a London community choir, in 2019 and is Musical Director of the East Herts Primary Singing Festival. She has also contributed to major performances, including serving as one of two chorus masters for London Youth Choir for the First Night of the Proms in 2025 and preparing the ripieno choir for Bach’s St Matthew Passion at the Royal Festival Hall with The Bach Choir.
Earlier in her career she sang professionally with the internationally renowned a cappella quintet Apollo5, touring the USA, Asia and Europe while leading workshops and masterclasses for young singers.
The new Bedford Sings Youth Choir grows out of the success of recent collaborative projects with local schools, which revealed a strong appetite for singing.
Founder director and Bedford Sings chair, Duncan Fraser, said the organisation was “thrilled” to welcome Brosnan.
“She brings exceptional musical expertise together with a deep commitment to inspiring young singers, particularly those who may never have sung in a choir before. We’re excited to see the choir flourish under her leadership.”
The choir will be non-selective, form the initial six participating schools. Bedford Sings plans to expand the programme into a family of youth choirs over the next five years, helping establish Bedford as a vibrant centre for choral singing.
